John Weir
FOUNDER
John Weir has worked in the electrical construction industry for more than 14 years. He began working on large-scale solar after realizing there was a lack of local contractors among a sea of out-of-state solar providers coming to the Illinois market.
Weir aims to make 1818 Renewable Energy Illinois’ go-to hometown solar design, installation and maintenance company.
John is a Lake County, Illinois native where he lives with his wife, three daughters and dogs. Weir is also a certificated drone pilot (FAA Part 107) and a certificated private pilot (FAA Part 141).

Rick Stanley
PROJECT MANAGER
Rick Stanley is a Project Manager for 1818 Renewable Energy. He began his career as a truck driver for an electrical contractor before progressing to a union foreman electrician in IBEW Local 150. He spent many years gaining invaluable experience in the field, and advanced to his current role due to his expansive knowledge of renewable energy.
Rick spends his free time creating music, enjoying our local forest preserves and campsites, and continues his unrelenting search for the world’s greatest hot dog.

Laura R. Koopman
CUSTOMER SERVICE MANAGER
Laura Koopmann has 20 years of experience in the electrical construction industry and has been part of the solar industry growth in recent years.
Laura lives near Rockford and loves hanging out with family and friends, and is a big fan of dogs.
